What do you mean by social justice returns?

From “The Social Justice Investor: Advance Your Values While Building Wealth, Whether a Few Dollars or Millions” by Andrea Longton, CFA

Financial partner: What do you mean by social justice returns?

You: I’d like to align my investment portfolio with my social justice objectives. Racial justice is important to me and I would like my money to promote organizations that provide products and services that close the racial equity gap.

This script can be modified or expanded to consider the social justice concern you specifically wish to address. Other examples may include:

Climate justice: “I don’t want entire populations to be left out of the green economy because they don’t have affordable pathways to integrate energy efficiency products. I want my investments to flow to companies that offer environmentally friendly goods and services for low-wealth communities.”

Social justice for people with disabilities: “I want my money to support people with disabilities. Could you please point me to companies that demonstrate a commitment to equality for people with disabilities?”

Social justice for Indigenous people: “I want to support Indigenous communities. What are some options for investing in small businesses owned by Indigenous Americans?”

Social justice for rural communities: “I want my portfolio to support investments in rural areas. Do you have any investment options that create quality healthcare in rural communities?”
