From “Why Christians Should Be Leftists” by Phil Christman
When we fall out of love with one kind of Christianity, white nationalist Christianity, or just (though this is an oversimplification) “evangelicalism” – it’s natural to want to investigate, or even to uncritically celebrate, whatever is the opposite of…that. For politically active Americans, what that usually means is something a bit like switching up the sports team one supports. You used to root for the Republicans – you voted for them, or perhaps even donated or volunteered for them. If that option has become distasteful or even impossible for you, then it makes sense to vote for, and if you’re really hard core, to donate or volunteer for the other team. We have a two-party system, right? If you lose respect for one team, you either don’t vote at all or you switch up.
