From “Scapegoats: The Gospel Through the Eyes of Victims” by Jennifer Garcia Bashaw
We must be honest about what forces in the contemporary church create scapegoats, condone scapegoating, or contribute to the marginalization of people to make them vulnerable to scapegoating. We will need to answer hard questions: What kinds of people has the church tended to scapegoat and why? How have they justified it? Who is being scapegoated in our society today? Why do Christians continue to participate in scapegoating and victim-making? How have we strayed so far from our roots in Jesus’ life and ministry?
