From “Life After Doom: Wisdom and Courage for a World Falling Apart” by Brian D. McLaren
Just the other day, I was telling a friend about this book. When I shared some of the ideas in the “Hope Is Complicated” chapter, she told me, “I used to think that hope was the confidence that what I fear won’t happen.” Then she added, “Now I think that hope is the confidence that what I fear will happen, but that I don’t have to be afraid.”
I can’t stop thinking about that powerful shift in perspective.
