I think “By their fruits ye shall know them” is an important Christian epistemological principle. In a worldview where truth itself became a person – a person to whom our propositions can point, and whom our stories can evoke – there are going to be theological arguments that you can only settle by observation. And I knew more of God’s care and love in a church where the minister was a lesbian than I did in several churches where that lesbian would never have been allowed to serve, because we were so concerned with, ironically, obeying Jesus. For me, that’s the end of the debate.
