An Isaiah 45 Cyrus

From “The Bible According to Christian Nationalists: Exploiting Scripture for Political Power” by Brian Kaylor

Back in 2016, Wallnau sought to assuage the consciences of Christians struggling with the idea of voting for a thrice-married casino magnate who had had multiple affairs and appeared on the cover of Playboy magazine. While some like James Dobson tried to paint Trump as “a baby Christian,” Wallnau instead said it was okay to vote for Trump because God raises up ungodly rulers to do God’s will. To make this argument, he turned to the Bible with a creative interpretative idea apparently inspired by Count von Count: “One, two, three, count. Batty, batty, batty, batty, batty bat.” Since Trump would be the forty-fifth president if he won in 2016, Wallnau turned to Isaiah 45. The first verse mentioned the ancient Persian ruler Cyrus, whom God used for good even though he wasn’t part of the Hebrew people. Voila!

“There is a Cyrus anointing on Trump. He is, as my friend Kim Clement said three years ago, ‘God’s trumpet,’”. Wallnau wrote in 2016 for Charisma magazine. “I believe the 45th president is meant to be an Isaiah 45 Cyrus.”
